We have done this cruise a few times over the years, went again yesterday. Everything about the trip was well organized, food was pretty good too. Each time we've gone the entertainment was different but yesterday was the best with Jerry Burton performing.

The cruise line said the passengers missed the "all aboard time of 3 p.m. local time." It said it was a "very unfortunate situation" but that passengers were responsible for being on time. This peaceful chair-lined beach is a quiet spot away from the family beach, where I can sit back and enjoy the view or take a chair down to the water and let the waves crash over me. Speaking of gear, at Castaway Cay, cruisegoers can borrow free towels as soon as they get off of the ship. There are plenty of towel-return stations around the island, so I also never have to carry wet, sandy towels back on the ship. I hate taking tender ships, which can feel like a bit of a time sink, so this is a big bonus to me. Waikiki is a shopper's paradise, with high-end stores as well as boutiques selling local signatures.

Even in Maui, which has become more popular, "secret" beaches (and red ones, like Kaihalulu Beach) provide respite from the crowds. No trip to Oahu is complete without paying your respects to the victims of Pearl Harbor at the USS Arizona Memorial. You should also learn about Hawaii's Polynesian heritage at Honolulu's Iolani Palace, the former home of the long-ruling Kamehameha dynasty.

The purple paste known as poi is a puree of this much-loved root vegetable, and it pairs well with other Hawaiian staples, such as the aforementioned Kalua pork (dip it!) and fresh fish. Is there any meal more Polynesian than a whole, roasted pig? Vegetarians have plenty of choices in Hawaii, but this isn't one of them. After cooking for hours over an open flame, this tender meat is plucked off the bone and plated, or sandwiched in a Hawaiian roll.

On the return trip, enjoy listening to our onboard entertainment. Enjoy our all you can eat breakfast buffet and dessert bar.
